St. Brigid didn’t only bring us a bank holiday – She brought Ireland a symbol of feminine strength, resilience and leadership. Saint Brigid’s Day marks the beginning of Spring – a monumental time of renewal and rebirth.
Myths and legends
- Brigid was known for providing to those in need. It is said that on occasions Brigid transformed water to beer for a group of monks during an Easter Celebration.
- As Brigid is the patron saint of healers, there are many accounts of her healing powers. Some of which repaired blindness and healed diseases by her prayers and touch alone.
- Brigid is also associated with fire and fertility. Through her prayers and blessings, she brought fertility to the farmland and improved the harvest for the community.
The story of Saint Brigid brings compassion, hope and kindness to the nation – which is what Saint Brigid’s Day is all about. As the first female Patron Saint of Ireland, it is only right to contribute to her day of feast, in true Irish style.
