Ring is one of Ireland’s most cherished traditions. But where did it come from, and what makes it so special? Discover the story behind one of Ireland's finest treasures.

What is the meaning behind the Claddagh ring?

  • Heart– A symbol of love.
  • Crown– A promise of loyalty.
  • Hands A bond of friendship.

This traditional piece of jewellery tells a beautiful story through its design, symbolising fidelity and commitment. Old Irish tales suggest a master goldsmith named Richard Joyce, who learned the art of ring-making while captive in the West Indies developed the design. Upon gaining his freedom, he returned home to Galway and gifted the Claddagh ring to his sweetheart.
