Dogs are welcome on board, provided they are kept on a lead. That means you can enjoy the sea air, harbour views and spectacular Dublin coastline without leaving your dog at home.

The boat trip takes approximately 50 minutes and is an easy addition to a day spent exploring Howth.

Farmleigh Estate

Looking for somewhere to stretch your legs with your dog? Farmleigh Estate in Phoenix Park is a lovely option.

The 78-acre estate has beautiful parkland, gardens and pathways to explore. Even better, dogs are welcome in the parkland as long as they are kept on a lead.

Entry to the Farmleigh Estate grounds is free, making it an easy addition to a dog-friendly day in Dublin. If you want to visit Farmleigh House itself, remember that the house is a separate guided experience.

Newbridge House & Farm Parkland

Just outside the city centre, Newbridge House & Farm sits within 370 acres of parkland in North County Dublin.

Dogs are welcome in the wider parkland when kept on a lead, making it a good choice if you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a walk with your dog.

There are some important restrictions to remember. Dogs are not permitted inside Newbridge House, the farm or the Coach House Café, so this is best viewed as a dog-friendly parkland experience rather than an attraction where your dog can accompany you everywhere.

Will Dogs Be Allowed on Public Transport in Ireland in 2027?

There is a proposed change to make travelling with pets on public transport easier, but it is not yet a confirmed 2027 rule.

In August 2026, the National Transport Authority published the results of its consultation on a consistent policy for pets travelling on Transport for Ireland services, including bus, rail and Luas.

The proposed approach would allow small dogs and other small animals to travel in suitable carriers, while larger dogs could travel on a lead and with a muzzle. The NTA is now working with transport operators on updates to the relevant bye-laws and conditions of carriage.

So, if you're planning a dog-friendly Dublin trip for 2027, keep an eye on the latest TFI guidance before travelling. The final rules and implementation date have not yet been confirmed.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs will continue to be permitted on TFI services without restriction.
