Located on the grounds of Dublin Castle, the contents of this impressive gallery was passed on by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty to the Irish state upon his death. Spread over two floors, the exhibition features over 20,000 historic manuscripts as well as rare books, beautiful paintings and native dresses from throughout the world. Chester Beatty built up his collection by embarking on an expedition to Asia. Artefacts from the Ottoman Empire, Persia and even love poems from 1100 BC Egypt can be found amongst this incredible collection.

Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA)

Most exhibitions at the Irish Museum of Modern Art are free of charge. The line-up of who is being exhibited changes every few months so best do some advance research for who is on display at any given time. We recommend spending some time in the beautiful grounds, garden and medieval burial grounds during a visit here. The building that IMMA is housed in is the former site of The Royal Hospital in Dublin. Built back in 1680, the design was based upon the magnificent Les Invalides in Paris.

The Natural History Museum

The Dead Zoo at The Museum of Natural History, is one of Dublin’s oldest Museums, once you step into the museum it almost feels as though your are transported back to Victorian Era Dublin. The Dead Zoo is a Dublin favourite as not only are the displays historic but the building it’s self a frozen moment from the past. The Dead Zoo has some brilliant exhibitions on display with some 10,000 exhibits in total including a 20 metre long whale skeleton suspended from the roof and an opportunity to hold the skulls of a badger and a pilot whale.

Please note the museum is currently closed to the public due to a refurbishment project.

DoDublin Tour Stop - Merrion Street Upper for Leinster House and Natural History Museum.

The Green as it’s affectionately known by Dubliners was opened in 1880 for the leisure of the citizens of Dublin. Always a popular and busy location, St. Stephen’s Green is an ideal spot for chilling out with family and friends to just watch the world go by. There are commemorations located throughout the 22 acres in the park including the Fusiliers’ Arch in memory of the Dubliners who fought and died in the Second Boer War. The Green is also home to a children’s playground and over 3.5km of pathways making it a great location for a family stroll.
